Shelter Island: A Hidden Gem

Shelter Island is a total gem!

A beckoning skyline, clear waters, and delicious cuisine! I spent a weekend in this beautiful town and I have to say that it has definitely earned its place in my heart.

A mere 3-hour commute and a ferry ride away from Brooklyn, Shelter Island is the perfect weekend getaway. It’s hard to believe that this gem is in such close proximity to the concrete jungle. The island is located at the eastern end of Long Island. Upon arrival, you will quickly come to realize that it’s a world apart. You can expect breathtaking sites, hospitable locals, and steady jolts of fresh air.

Where to Eat

CAPPELLETTI ITALIAN GRILL: Try their avocado, goat cheese, and sun-dried tomato focaccia sandwich. This ma and pop shop has been in business for over 30 years and is the self-proclaimed originators of the focaccia sandwich which we now know across the nation.

THE TAVERN at Shelter Island House: The Tavern is the local’s treasure. A delightful ambiance bounded by exposed brick and charming decor. Ask the friendly bartender to make you an old-fashioned cocktail. Hands down, one of the best I’ve tried.
